How to Prepare for the Campus Placement Coding Round

By the Codveri team ·

What online coding rounds in campus drives test, how to manage time, and a short checklist to use in the week before the test.

What the round usually looks like

Most drives use an online test with an aptitude section and one to three coding problems on a fixed timer. Service companies lean on easier problems and aptitude; product companies lean on harder problems and speed. Always read the instructions the college sends for your specific drive.

Time management

Spend the first two minutes reading all questions and start with the one you are most sure of. Get a correct partial solution before chasing the perfect one. If a problem is stuck for ten minutes, move on and come back.

Make your code pass hidden cases

Sample cases are only a start. Think about empty input, one element, duplicates, very large values and negative numbers. Check your loop bounds and use the right integer type.

Practise in the same conditions

Take timed tests on the same kind of screen and keyboard you will use on the day. Practise without autocomplete if the real platform does not offer it. A rated test on Codveri has a server-enforced timer, which is good practice for this.

The week before

Revise your weakest topic, redo five problems you solved slowly, sleep properly and check your laptop, charger, internet and login a day early. Keep your ID and the drive email handy.
