How to Get Your First Developer Job as a Fresher in India
By the Codveri team ·
A practical plan for B.Tech and BCA freshers: what to learn, what to build, how to prove your skill and how to apply so recruiters notice you.
Start with one target role
Do not apply to everything. Pick one role for the next 90 days: backend developer, frontend developer, data analyst, QA engineer or cloud support. A clear target tells you what to study and what to build.
Read ten real fresher job posts for that role and list the skills that repeat. That list is your syllabus.
Learn the core, then build
For almost every software role the core is the same: one programming language well, data structures and algorithms at the easy-to-medium level, SQL, Git and how the web works. Spend the first month here.
Then build two small projects that solve a real problem, such as a fee tracker for your hostel mess or a timetable app for your department. A working, deployed project with a clean README beats five unfinished clones.
Prove it with something a stranger can check
A recruiter who has never met you cannot tell whether a résumé line is true. Give them evidence they can open: a live link, a public GitHub repository, and a verified rating from timed tests.
A Codveri rating does this job. It comes from timed, server-checked tests, so it is harder to fake than a certificate. Practise free, then take a rated test in your target domain.
Apply in a way that gets replies
Send fewer, better applications. For each one, change the top of your résumé to match the role, link your best project and mention your rating. Apply the same day a role is posted; early applicants get read more carefully.
Ask seniors and alumni for referrals. A short, specific message works best: your target role, one project link and one question.
Prepare for the interview rounds
Expect an aptitude or coding screen, a technical round and an HR round. Practise coding problems under a timer, revise OS, DBMS, networks and OOP, and be ready to explain every line of your projects.
Practise explaining your thinking aloud. Interviewers hire people they can follow.
